Volunteers needed for Wabash Marathon races

This year Bank Iowa is helping to host the annual Wabash Marathon races. The races this year are on Saturday September 14th.

President of Southwest Iowa Nature Trails, Rebecca Castle, say volunteers are needed in Malvern, Imogene, and Shenandoah.

"In Malvern and Imogene for the start of the half in the full marathon we can always use volunteers to help cheer people on as they are getting through town and watch intersections.  The main help is needed in Shenandoah because they've got the runners coming through for a number of hours and we need crossing guards at all the intersections and turns, cheering people on, and handing out waters just to make sure everyone gets through town safely."

Castle adds that the races will start in different places but all end in Shenandoah.

"The marathon and marathon relays both begin in Malvern at 7:30 in the morning.  And then they do a little route through town, then take the Wabash Trails all the way to Shenandoah through Imogene.  The half marathon begins in Imogene and also ends in Shenandoah.  The finish line is right in front of the Depot Deli restaurant downtown."
